Let´s take a look at the upcoming second Grand Slam of the year
With Roland Garros approaching, the who’s who of the tennis world is slowly arriving in Paris. While players are still battling for their main draw spot in the qualification rounds, we are going to take a look at the top contenders for this year’s French Open.
Looking back at the Rome Masters and the dominance of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, the majority of the tennis world seems to believe another epic clash between the two tennis giants is only a matter of time. As they enter the tournament as the number 1 and 2 seeds, their earliest possible meeting would be in the final.
Another major contender is 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. Even with his fluctuating form and progressing age, the 37-year-old remains a force to be reckoned with.
However, there are other players who displayed excellent form during the clay court swing. Especially Italian Lorenzo Musetti stood out, reaching multiple quarter- and semifinals. Reminiscing on the last couple of years, two other strong contenders are two-time finalist Casper Ruud and world number three Alexander Zverev. Despite recent struggles, Zverev has seemed to peak during the French Open in recent years.
Former world No. 35 Nicole Pratt and other experts see Sinner and Alcaraz as a level above everyone else right now and predict a final between the two superstars: “The men’s tournament is a two-horse race with Sinner and Alcaraz.” Their consistent dominance and recent performances on clay have set them apart as the clear favorites in Paris.
